Port Hedland Feb iron ore shipments to China dip 18%
For February, the total volume of iron ore shipped to China from Port Hedland, Western Australia's largest iron ore terminal, fell by a large 7.1 million tonnes or 17.5% from January to reach 33.4 million tonnes, a one-year low, according to the latest statistics from Pilbara Ports Authority (PPA). Nevertheless, the tonnage was still 2.6 million tonnes or 8.6% higher on year.
The total iron ore tonnage dispatched worldwide through Hedland last month followed the same downward trajectory, with the volume reaching 39.4 million tonnes, down 17.8% on month though up 5.2% on year, according to the PPA data.
