China’s H1 manganese ore imports fall 18.3% on year
China’s manganese ore imports over the first half of this year posted a year-on-year drop of 18.3% to reach 12.8 million tonnes, according to the latest detailed data released by China’s General Administration of Customs (GACC) in late July. Chiefly responsible for the plunge was the rapid spread of the coronavirus pandemic worldwide which disrupted Mn ore mining and exports in many countries, sources explained.
The decline broke the steady on-year rise in China’s imports of manganese ore that began in 2016, as the outbreak of COVID-19 globally forced major manganese ore exporters to take measures to combat the spread of the virus, which in South Africa saw the government impose a nationwide lockdown
