WSA: Global crude steel output down 6% in H1
Steel output of the 64 countries under the monthly tracking of the World Steel Association (WSA) contracted 6% on year to 873.1 million tonnes over January-June, with the on-year decline further deepening from the 5.2% fall for the first five months of 2020, indicating the greater impact of the COVID-19, according to the WSA data.
“Coronavirus has been exerting profound impact on the global steel industry and the related downstream sectors... For June alone, the world’s output clipped 7% on year to 148.3 million tonnes, or down slightly from the 148.8 million tonnes.
